Oracle Text

At the beginning of each end step, if a card left your graveyard this turn, create a token. (It's an artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")

Students working in the field for the first time learn the benefits of small, agile spirit statues over large, strong ones.

Relic Retriever's last ability will check as your end step starts to see if any cards have left your graveyard this turn. If none did, the ability won't trigger at all. It's not possible to remove cards from your graveyard during your end step in time to have the ability trigger.
